The Parrish Art Museum in the Hamptons, NY, is delighted to unveil "Julia Chiang - The Glows and the Blows," a groundbreaking solo exhibition that marks the first museum showcase of the gifted painter's work. On view from July 14th to October 13th, the exhibition will feature Chiang's latest large-scale paintings and ceramics, beckoning visitors to step into her mesmerizing and introspective realm.
Chiang's creative approach is a delicate dance between measured, deliberate motions and impulsive, instinctive gestures. Organic forms take shape on the canvas, their paint densities varying as they vie for space with an almost primal intensity. Though Chiang's work falls within the realm of abstraction, the human body serves as the cornerstone for her allegories, metaphors, and explorations. Her visual lexicon is replete with organic shapes and structures, acting as introspective portals that traverse the physical—from medical scans to internal bodily fluids and environments—and the psychological—from layered emotions and feelings to the tensions between inner turmoil and external pressures, and the delicate interplay of fragility and resilience. Reflecting on her work, Chiang muses, "I'm always interested in our bodies as vessels, what we contain and what we cannot. All that comes out of us, all that is within us . . . Borders both real and imagined. Existing in the in-between."
"The Glows and the Blows" is poised to be a captivating and thought-provoking exhibition that illuminates Chiang's singular artistic vision and her uncanny ability to probe the intricacies of the human experience through abstract forms. Visitors will have the chance to lose themselves in her monumental paintings and ceramics, each piece offering a window into the artist's introspective universe. The Parrish Art Museum's expansive galleries serve as the ideal backdrop for appreciating the profundity and power of Chiang's work, enabling visitors to fully immerse themselves in her emotionally charged art. This exhibition is an absolute must for anyone with a passion for contemporary art that challenges boundaries and plumbs the depths of the human condition.
